Friday Fave: Favourite book of the year so far

Friday Fave Banner

Friday Fave is a weekly discussion about different bookish topics. You can choose just one favourite or a few – the choice is up to you!

This week’s topic is: Fave book of the year so far

If you’ve followed my blog for a little while now, this choice should come as no surprise:

A Conjuring of Light

V.E.Schwab

ACOL UKNot only does this book look fab on my bookshelf, the stuff on the inside is also brilliant. This is the last book in a trilogy, and V.E.Schwab has proven that she can write a fantastic series finale. I did not want to put this book down and would have to force myself to do so in order to be fresh faced for work the next day.

This book was fast paced and there wasn’t a dull moment. I never felt that the characters were ever safe, and I was terrified throughout that my favourites (which to be honest, they all are my favourites) wouldn’t get through the action alive. It was an immensely satisfying ending and this is one of the few series that I would re-read in the future.

And if there are any books that are set in the same world, then it would be an instant buy.

Blurb

Witness the fate of beloved heroes – and enemies.

THE BALANCE OF POWER HAS FINALLY TIPPED…
The precarious equilibrium among four Londons has reached its breaking point. Once brimming with the red vivacity of magic, darkness casts a shadow over the Maresh Empire, leaving a space for another London to rise.

WHO WILL CRUMBLE?
Kell – once assumed to be the last surviving Antari – begins to waver under the pressure of competing loyalties. And in the wake of tragedy, can Arnes survive?

WHO WILL RISE?
Lila Bard, once a commonplace – but never common – thief, has survived and flourished through a series of magical trials. But now she must learn to control the magic, before it bleeds her dry. Meanwhile, the disgraced Captain Alucard Emery of the Night Spire collects his crew, attempting a race against time to acquire the impossible.

WHO WILL TAKE CONTROL?
And an ancient enemy returns to claim a crown while a fallen hero tries to save a world in decay.
